The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner book review
July 18th, 2006
The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner by David Bach was not exactly what I expected it to be. I was expecting a book that was about how to leverage your home as an investment with maybe a few chapters on buying a home, but it wound up being the other way around. As such, it was not very useful to me. That being said, had the book been published a year earlier, the book would have been very useful to me.
What the Automatic Millionaire Homeowner does is lay out every step of the home buying process in great deal, with action points on what you need to do at each step of the process. If I had had the book available last year, then I would have had a conveniant resource to figure out each step of the home buying process with no surprises and would not have had to figure it all out on my own. Most of what is in the book mirrored pretty closely my own experiences with buying my house, with a few tidbits here and there that I hadn’t known and a couple chapters that were still useful even though I already bought the house.
The book comes with a lot of supplemental content that you can get online at the website. There is a podcast with audio for each chapter that can be downloaded, a blog with updates, and a contest to win the downpayment for a new house. I would certainly recommend this book for anybody looking to become a first time homeowner, and to a lesser extent for somebody looking to purchase a second or third home. For somebody with experience, this book will probably not have a lot of new information, but it can be read in a few hours and would certainly provide a good refresher course.
