Adelphia is giving Time Warner a bad name
September 8th, 2006Recently, Time Warner cable took over for Adelphia. They still have not got complete control, but that should come over the next three to six months. Football season started last night, so I had cable television installed yesterday afternoon. Last night, I watched the Miami and Pittsburgh game with what is somewhat less than the quality that I would have expected from digital cable. The tech who installed the cable checked the signal, which was plenty strong. However, once I actually tried watching the babble box I had to check to make sure that I was in fact using cable and not some rabbit ears.
Calling up customer service involved a lengthy wait on hold, and then a promise that they would reset my box and my quality would improve within 5 to 10 minutes. That did not happen. I called again this morning, and after being on hold for an hour wound up having my call dropped. So I had to call back again. My service option is to have somebody come out sometime on Sunday. Hopefully, they wait for the afternoon. I will be running on Sunday morning.
I think that this consolidation of cable services is bad for the economy. Monopoly situations make it difficult to get good prices and good service for the little luxieries that we want. Hopefully they will improve very soon because I do not want to have to cancel my cable service and then have to drive somewhere to watch the football games.

[…] The problems with my cable service that I was having are not really solved, but they are worked around. The network channels still do not come in, but I now have access to the high definition channels which come in really well. […]
