Say good bye to the mail box…
December 3rd, 2006I woke up this morning and saw my mail box in my neighbor’s driveway. Looking up and down the street, and you would not think that there was anything wrong.
My neighbor’s mail box is on a post next to my mail box, which stands directly in front of a telephone pole. The pole is driven into the ground in the side of a ditch. I guess that just makes them that much more of a target.
My neighbor did almost all of the work of getting the mail boxes back up. The pole that they were attached to was split, but he had a spare in his garage. He says that we usually lose the mail boxes at least 2 or 3 times each winter from the snow plows, but we have not gotten any snow yet somehow. I had to put the mail box into my vise and bend it back into position; it is not perfect, but hopefully it will not let too much water in.
Based on the skid marks, I am going to assume that it was a drunk driver. It must not have made too much noise, though, because the mail boxes are directly across the street from my bedroom window and I did not wake up for it.
I was so proud of my mail box, too; I replaced the original mail box when I moved in with a shiny new black one. Oh well, it is not quite as dented as the old one, and at least it has our name on it.

Oh, the joys of being a homeowner!

Losing the mail box was not all that bad in the end; I was able to bend it mostly back into shape so I didn’t have to go out and buy another one right away. And I live in central Maine, so it’s not like I have to worry about the weather or anything…heheh…
